HOPE DEFERRED

HOPE DEFERRED

Has the shine wore off,
Are you looking for the magic?

Have the stars fallen on fallow ground,
Leaving your heart like a dark canvass?

Does the sun lack in gold,
Shadows covering the brightness in your skin?

Footsteps in and out of the cold,
Soul serrated from the lack of a bird's song

The smoke breathes into your bones,
Oxygen deepens, freeing lungs from suffocation

Hope deferred makes the heart sick
Yell to the choking lies of life, let go

Take back everything you want
Fight for your dream that has been washed out in the rain
