Eternal Lifeline

Your finger tips touched the light inside of me
Abundant chemistry set fire beneath my feet

Sad lines of guilt define your face
Lips gray in stone capped shame

You used to walk so free
Now in a place of humility- crawling

I was the face of comfort you called on
I've become a distant borderline stranger

Run me clean like the river that rages
Cut me down to the beauty of beginning

I'll save you in a sailing dream
I'll turn a cheek to your loaded gun

I've been walking aimlessly
Grief is the aching I've known

Thinking on that night
I saw the kindness leave your eyes

Dissident heart chilled the air
You refused to hold me one last time

What did I do
To make you so cruel

The more love I poured out
The thicker your shield became

Once shared flesh
Severed by religious grain

Hanging hearts on lamp posts
Slaughtered in the name of holiness

Self denial and sacrifice
Threads woven to save a family name

Reputation hanging in the mouth of death
To save what's external

Murdered love buried in soil
For the greater eternal lifeline
